MarketMuse is an AI content planning, topic research and content-brief platform, now part of Siteimprove following an announced acquisition. Three client platforms converge near 4.6/5, and pricing is the single most-cited complaint on every one of them, yet MarketMuse’s own pricing page no longer publishes a number to check it against.
MarketMuse Review Overview
- G2: 4.6/5 on 216 reviews, checked September 2026, largest sample here, includes vendor-invited reviews.
- Capterra / GetApp / Software Advice: 4.6/5 on 28 reviews, one Gartner review pool republished three times, checked September 2026, sample skews to 2021-2022.
- TrustRadius: 9.2/10 on 19 reviews, checked September 2026, only 7 of the 19 fully rendered on read, several individual reviews explicitly tagged “Incentivized.”
- Trustpilot: profile exists, unclaimed, zero reviews, checked September 2026.

What Users Say About MarketMuse
Across G2, the Gartner-pool platforms and TrustRadius, users consistently praise ease of use, content-brief quality and competitive topic research, and just as consistently name pricing as the reason for a lower score.
G2: 4.6/5 (216 reviews, checked September 2026)
At least one review in G2’s feed carries the label “Source: G2 invite,” G2’s own vendor-solicitation flag, so this sample is partly solicited alongside organic submissions. G2’s AI-generated pros/cons tags list “High Pricing” as a named con category.
What users praise:
- Ease of use and useful content-gap and topic insights, per G2’s own AI-generated summary
- SERP X-ray and Heatmap competitive research
- Content briefs that save research time
Where users push back:
- A steep learning curve and feature depth described as overwhelming at first
- Pricing seen as high relative to value at upper tiers
- Content-score metrics described by some as inconsistent against Frase or Surfer SEO
“If you’re paying a monthly subscription for it, it is incredibly expensive. Worse the amount of money you have to pay for the higher tiers is disproportionate to the value of provides.” (sic)
- Kelly W., Marketing specialist, Small-Business (G2 )
Capterra, GetApp and Software Advice: 4.6/5 (28 reviews, checked September 2026)
These are one review pool, not three. Capterra, GetApp and Software Advice are all Gartner Digital Markets properties, and this listing is byte-identical across all three: same 4.6 rating, same 28-review count, same 20/5/2/1/0 star distribution, and at least two reviewer quotes (Khan Md Mohaiuminul Islam S.’s October 2021 review and Ashok A.’s October 2021 review) appear verbatim across them. Treat this as a single confirmed sample republished three times, not three independent corroborations.
GetApp discloses earning a referral fee when a reader clicks through to the vendor. Software Advice labels its reviews “Organic. This review was submitted organically. No incentive was offered.” No per-review incentive label was found on Capterra’s own listing beyond a generic policy tooltip. The sample also skews old: the fully-read reviews across this pool date to 2021-2022, with none confirmed from after the Siteimprove acquisition.
What users praise:
- Content optimization and gap-analysis quality
- Strong customer support, cited on Capterra and Software Advice
- Useful for beginners via the free tier, and effective at improving rankings on updated content
Where users push back:
- “The price is too high for the service it provides,” per Software Advice’s own Cons summary
- A sudden increase in cost that added limitations to what one customer had already paid for, flagged on Capterra
- Not intuitive at first, with a steep learning curve
“for small entrepreneurs like us it’s very difficult for us o purchase in this price range, they would think about it also.” (sic)
- Khan Md Mohaiuminul Islam S., Civil Engineer, Civil Engineering (Software Advice )
A separate Capterra review from October 2021 raised a pricing-change and trust complaint in personal terms about an individual at the company; its substance, that the reviewer experienced a sudden pricing-plan change, is folded into the pushback points above rather than quoted directly. MarketMuse’s own vendor response to that review, signed “Response from MarketMuse by Siteimprove,” confirms the post-acquisition rebrand is now applied retroactively to older review threads.
TrustRadius: 9.2 out of 10 (19 reviews, checked September 2026)
TrustRadius uses a 10-point scale; this figure is reported as published, not converted to a 5-point scale. Only 7 of the 19 total reviews fully rendered on this read, so themes below are drawn from that visible subset, not the full 19. TrustRadius labels several individual reviews “Incentivized” directly under the rating, meaning it runs its own solicited-review program, and the reviews read all date to 2022 or earlier, with none confirmed from after the acquisition.
What users praise:
- Comprehensive keyword analysis and positioning suggestions, per TrustRadius’s own “Community insights” synthesis
- A helpful FAQ-list generation feature
- An “invaluable” heatmap comparing user content to top-ranking competitors
Where users push back:
- Pricing repeatedly described as “pricey for small businesses” and something that “should be more reasonable”
- The interface needs friendlier design, per one reviewer
- Weak customer service and limited search-filter flexibility, flagged by one non-incentivized reviewer
“Can be pricey for small businesses.”
- Verified User, Advisor in Marketing, 51-200 employees (TrustRadius )
Trustpilot: profile exists, zero reviews (checked September 2026)
MarketMuse’s Trustpilot profile is present but unclaimed, showing 0.0 aggregate score, 0 reviews and “This company hasn’t received any reviews yet.” There is no consumer sample here at all, so unlike most tools on this site there is no B2B-versus-consumer gap to report. It is simply an absence of signal, not a negative one.
Where the Review Platforms Disagree
The three scored client platforms broadly agree, and that is worth stating plainly: G2 sits at 4.6/5 across 216 reviews, the Gartner pool at 4.6/5 across 28, and TrustRadius at 9.2 out of 10 (roughly 4.6/5) across 19. Agreement across separately sourced samples is a stronger signal than any single score.
The real gap is recency and how the reviews were gathered, not the rating:
| Platform | Most recent reviews | Commercial relationship |
|---|---|---|
| G2 | Through August 2025 | Review flow includes vendor invitations |
| Capterra, GetApp & Software Advice | 2021-2022 | One shared sample; GetApp discloses a referral fee, Software Advice’s reviews are labeled organic |
| TrustRadius | 2022 or earlier, only 7 of 19 rendered | Runs its own explicit “Incentivized” review program |
The Gartner-pool score and TrustRadius’s score are both likely carried substantially by a pre-acquisition, 2021-2022 sample. G2 is the only sample with reviews confirmed as recent as August 2025. None of that erases the underlying positive consensus across all three, but none should be read as a fully current, fully unsolicited verdict either.
MarketMuse Pricing
Read at marketmuse.com/pricing, 2026-09-02. All paid tiers now read “Book a demo”; no self-serve price is published for Optimize, Research or Strategy. This is a change from MarketMuse’s historical published-price model to a fully sales-gated one.
| Plan | Price | What it gates |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Self-serve, no cost | 1 user, 10 queries/month, Topic Navigator, Keywords/SERP X-ray/SERP Heatmap, Site Heatmap & Connect; no tracked topics, no Content Briefs, no Content Strategy Documents |
| Optimize | Book a demo | 1 site inventory, 1 user, 100 tracked topics, 5 Content Briefs/month, 1 Content Strategy Document/month, 100 queries/month |
| Research | Book a demo | 1 site inventory, 3 users, 1,000 tracked topics, 10 Content Briefs/month, 3 Content Strategy Documents/month, unlimited queries |
| Strategy | Book a demo | 1 site inventory, 5 users, 10,000 tracked topics, 20 Content Briefs/month, all 9 Brief types, 5 Content Strategy Documents/month, unlimited queries |
The next tier up is gated by the tracked-topic ceiling, the Content Brief and Content Strategy Document monthly caps, the number of users, and query volume. No current price can be confirmed for any paid tier. GetApp reviewers cite a historical starting price around $99 to $150 a month, but those are reviewer-submitted figures reflecting the old published-price model, not current vendor pricing, and are not carried forward here.
That gap connects directly to the dominant complaint above: pricing is named as a problem on every platform carrying reviews (G2’s “High Pricing” tag, Capterra’s “difficult to purchase in this price range,” TrustRadius’s “pricey for small businesses,” GetApp’s “$150/month” quote, and Software Advice’s “price is too high”), and a buyer today cannot look up a number to weigh against that feedback.
MarketMuse as a Vendor: Stability Signals
| Source | Score | Reviews | Last checked |
|---|---|---|---|
| Glassdoor | 3.9/5 | 23 | September 2026 |
| Comparably | Not verified (page blocked) | — | September 2026 |
MarketMuse was acquired by Siteimprove, announced 8 October 2024, per MarketMuse’s own press release at marketmuse.com/siteimprove-and-marketmuse/, corroborated by Siteimprove’s own press page. G2’s current listing brands the seller as “Siteimprove” and describes the product as “MarketMuse by Siteimprove,” and Capterra’s vendor-response signature now reads “Response from MarketMuse by Siteimprove,” confirming the acquisition is live in both platforms’ vendor branding. This dossier does not confirm a completion date beyond that announcement.
Glassdoor rates the MarketMuse entity 3.9/5 across 23 company reviews, checked September 2026, read after an initial bot-challenge redirect. One review, from a former Senior Software Engineer in Montreal dated 5 May 2024 and rated 2.0/5, lists as a con that the “company is not growing despite putting lot of efforts,” a reviewer-reported growth-stagnation signal from around the acquisition period.
Comparably could not be verified: three spaced attempts to load MarketMuse’s Comparably profile returned an access-denied response. Profile existence is unknown, not confirmed absent. Indeed was not checked for a MarketMuse employer profile.
Read alongside each other, a positive but small employer sample of 23 Glassdoor reviews sits beside a positive and much larger client sample of 216 on G2. That is a correlation worth noting between two separately sourced observations, not evidence that one caused the other.
Do You Need the Tool or the Outcome?
MarketMuse no longer publishes a price for any paid tier, only “book a demo.” Whatever that number turns out to be, the licence is the cheap part of doing content strategy yourself; the expensive part is the headcount needed to run topic research, briefs and optimization inside it every week and turn the output into ranking pages that generate pipeline.
PipeRocket Digital is a B2B SaaS marketing agency working with 70+ B2B SaaS clients, including Storylane, Spendflo and HyperVerge, through a senior-led pod with no junior handoff, reporting pipeline metrics including MQLs, CAC and pipeline value from week four.
