Semrush Reviews: What Users Actually Say (2026)

Semrush Reviews: What Users Actually Say (2026)

Semrush is an all-in-one SEO, AI visibility and competitive-intelligence platform, now a wholly owned Adobe subsidiary. Its client scores split hard: G2 4.4/5 and a Gartner pool at 4.6/5 from B2B practitioners, against Trustpilot’s 1.7/5 from a self-serve billing-dispute sample. Both are real.

Semrush Review Overview

  • G2: 4.4/5 on 4,033 reviews, checked September 2026, no incentive label found in the sample read.
  • Capterra, GetApp & Software Advice: 4.6/5 on 2,326 reviews, checked September 2026, one shared Gartner pool, individual reviews confirmed gift-incentivized.
  • TrustRadius: 8.6/10 on 787 reviews, checked September 2026, at least one sampled review carries TrustRadius’s own “Incentivized” label.
  • Trustpilot: 1.7/5 on 1,379 reviews, checked September 2026, bimodal (42% five-star, 43% one-star), platform-solicited but not vendor-gift-incentivized.

What Users Say About Semrush

Practitioner platforms describe a deep, capable SEO and AI-visibility toolset held back by pricing and billing friction; Trustpilot’s sample describes a self-serve billing experience almost entirely separate from the tool itself.

G2: 4.4/5 (4,033 reviews, checked September 2026)

No “Incentivized Review” label was found in the sample checked or in a full-page search of the review markup, though this does not rule out incentivized reviews elsewhere in the full 4,033-review set. G2’s own AI-generated summary praises the “intuitive interface and comprehensive features” and the consolidation of multiple tools into one platform, while flagging pricing as “a barrier, especially for smaller businesses.” Top pros tags: Features (742 mentions), Ease of Use (732). Top cons tags: Expensive (507), High Pricing (437).

What users praise:

  • AI-driven insights that surface detailed findings without manual digging through raw data
  • Position Tracking, Site Audit and AI Overview/AI visibility features for keeping up with how search is evolving
  • Consolidation of multiple SEO tools into a single platform

Where users push back:

  • Pricing, tagged “Expensive” or “High Pricing” on nearly a thousand combined mentions
  • Add-on purchases that a secondary user can trigger without card confirmation, landing on the next invoice unflagged

“I have two users under my main ID, and I’m on the Pro package… one of my users can click ‘purchase’ on their own, and it gets added to the next month’s invoice without asking for any card details or anything else. That’s quite disappointing.”

  • Bhanu S., Manager - Analytics & Growth, Mid-Market (G2 )

Capterra, GetApp and Software Advice: 4.6/5 (2,326 reviews, checked September 2026)

These three listings are one review pool, not three. Capterra, GetApp and Software Advice are all Gartner Digital Markets properties, and this listing carries the same 4.6 rating, the same 2,326-review count and a matching star-bucket pattern across all three (5-star 606 / 4-star 66 / 3-star 9 / 2-star 23, off by rounding on the top bucket). Treat this as a single sample republished three times, not triple corroboration.

All three disclose earning a referral fee on clicks to the vendor. Capterra’s underlying page markup contains the strings “incentivized” and “NominalGift,” and a Software Advice review carries an explicit line: “Review source: Incentivized. This reviewer was invited by us to submit an honest review and offered a nominal incentive as a thank you.” So this pool’s score reflects gift-incentivized submissions, not an unprompted sample.

What users praise:

  • Keyword research database depth and competitor analysis, described as “incredibly deep and accurate”
  • AI-content-performance tracking across platforms like ChatGPT alongside traditional search
  • All-in-one consolidation and time saved on reporting

Where users push back:

  • Pricing for freelancers and small agencies, and a steep learning curve
  • Refund handling: “there appears to be no flexibility whatsoever, even when a customer requests a refund almost immediately after being charged, cancels the service right away, and receives no meaningful benefit from the paid subscription”
  • Position-tracking data showing zero search volume on primary keywords for some users, and inconsistent historical data exports between pulls of the same dataset
  • Slow customer-care response on account security issues

“Semrush is the ultimate all-in-one SEO and digital marketing tool. What I like most is its incredibly deep and accurate keyword research database, alongside comprehensive competitor analysis features.”

TrustRadius: 8.6 out of 10 (787 reviews, checked September 2026)

TrustRadius uses a 10-point scale; this figure is reported as published, not converted. The page also surfaces a “154 Reviews” list view and a separate “5 verified reviews” AI-synthesis cohort, different denominators on the same page, recorded here without picking one as more authoritative. At least one sampled review carries TrustRadius’s own “Incentivized” label directly on the review card, and TrustRadius runs its own incentivized-review program, though the share of the 787 total that carries the label could not be quantified.

What users praise (TrustRadius’s own AI synthesis of a 5-review cohort):

  • Keyword research and competitive intelligence
  • Ranking and visibility improvement, clear reporting
  • Intuitive interface

Where users push back:

  • Pricing and licensing cost as a barrier
  • Desire for more AI functionality
  • ROI and cost-sustainability concerns over time

No reviewer verbatim was captured for this platform beyond TrustRadius’s own AI-generated synthesis text, which is not a quotable source.

Trustpilot: 1.7/5 (“Bad,” 1,379 reviews, checked September 2026)

Semrush’s Trustpilot profile is claimed and has been since November 2019. Trustpilot itself discloses that Semrush “asks customers to review” and has “replied to 68% of negative reviews… typically within 24 hours.” The star distribution is strongly bimodal: 42% five-star, 8% four-star, 4% three-star, 3% two-star, 43% one-star, almost nothing in the middle. That shape means the 1.7 average is driven by a large, distinct one-star cohort, not by broad dissatisfaction across the sample. The sample is current: 358 of the 1,379 reviews were posted in the last 12 months.

Trustpilot’s own AI-generated summary of the negative cluster names unexpected payments, free trials “automatically converted into expensive yearly or monthly subscriptions without receiving clear warnings,” refund refusals, rigid customer service and a complicated cancellation process as the dominant themes.

What users praise:

  • The underlying SEO toolset itself, when reviewers get past billing

Where users push back:

  • Opaque modular add-on pricing and difficulty removing or clarifying unintended add-ons
  • Refund refusal and cancellation friction
  • Free-trial-to-paid conversion without clear warning

“Their modular service packages are completely opaque and confusing. Then, when you want to clarify with them that the add-ons were not intentional, or were not intentional on an ongoing basis, they make cancellation/removing add-ons unnecessarily difficult.”

Where the Review Platforms Disagree

This is the largest divergence in our review coverage: Trustpilot’s 1.7/5 sits 2.6 to 2.9 points below G2 (4.4/5) and the Gartner pool (4.6/5) on a comparable 5-point scale.

A bare 1.7 misrepresents what Trustpilot’s sample actually looks like. It is bimodal, 42% five-star and 43% one-star, meaning the low average comes from a large, concentrated block of one-star ratings clustered around auto-renewal, refund refusal and cancellation difficulty, not from broadly poor product experiences. G2, the Gartner pool and TrustRadius are dominated by working B2B practitioners rating Semrush on core functionality, keyword research, competitor analysis, site audit, where it performs well, and those samples include partly solicited and gift-incentivized reviews.

These are two different populations answering two different questions: Trustpilot’s self-serve and trial signups are largely rating the billing and cancellation experience, while the B2B platforms are rating the SEO tool itself. Neither figure is wrong. We do not average them, and we do not declare a “real” score.

Semrush Pricing

Verified on semrush.com’s own pricing page, 2026-09-02. Semrush has moved from its historical Pro/Guru/Business tier structure to an “SEO + AI Search” framing.

Plan Annual (/mo) Monthly (/mo) Key limits
SEO $117.33 $139.00 5 websites, 500 keywords tracked daily, Position Tracking, Site Audit, AI search-performance and sentiment tracking
Starter $165.17 $199.00 5 websites, 500 keywords, MCP access, 50 AI prompts/day, 1 domain for AI brand performance
Pro+ $248.17 $299.00 15 websites, 1,500 keywords, historical SEO data, content optimization, 100 AI prompts/day
Advanced $455.67 $549.00 40 websites, 5,000 keywords, SEO share of voice, API data integration, 200 AI prompts/day
Free $0 $0 1 demo project, 10 reports/day, no credit card required
Enterprise Custom Custom Unlimited projects, custom AI prompt tracking, SSO, dedicated account manager, sales-gated

Annual billing saves up to 17% against monthly. Several features are billed as separate add-ons rather than bundled into any tier: additional users start at $45/mo per seat, the Lead Generation add-on is $90/mo, and Base and Pro reporting add-ons are $10/mo and $20/mo. That add-on structure connects directly to the billing-opacity complaints reported above on G2, Trustpilot and Software Advice.

One inconsistency on the vendor’s own page as of this read: the pricing FAQ still asks “Which would be better for me, Guru or Pro?”, a legacy artifact from the older tier names, even though the visible tier cards above it now read SEO, Starter, Pro+ and Advanced.

Semrush as a Vendor: Stability Signals

ComparablyNot verified (page blocked) September 2026

Adobe completed its acquisition of Semrush Holdings, Inc. on 28 April 2026, under a merger agreement dated 18 November 2025, per Semrush’s own SEC Form 8-K (Accession No. 0001140361-26-017299). Semrush is no longer publicly traded and is now a wholly owned Adobe subsidiary. This is a change of ownership with an open post-acquisition outlook. What Adobe does with the product, pricing and support going forward is unproven at this date and is a fact for buyers to weigh, not a prediction we’re making.

Glassdoor rates Semrush 4.1/5 across 605 ratings, checked September 2026: 79% would recommend to a friend and 81% approve of CEO Bill Wagner. Sales-specific reviews on Glassdoor run lower, at 3.4/5 across 19 reviews, a function-specific weak point worth naming without a broader culture verdict. Semrush’s company page also cites a self-reported “2026 Great Place to Work Certification (US).”

Comparably could not be read this pass, blocked by a bot check on navigation; existence and score are unknown, not absent.

Read alongside each other, a positive but not exceptional 4.1/5 employer sample on Glassdoor sits beside a client base that is either strongly positive (G2, Gartner pool) or strongly polarized (Trustpilot), against the backdrop of a very recent change in ownership. That is a correlation worth noting between separately sourced observations, not evidence that one caused the other.

Do You Need the Tool or the Outcome?

Semrush’s entry SEO tier runs $117.33 a month on annual billing, before the add-ons many reviewers say they didn’t expect. That licence is the cheap part of doing SEO yourself; the expensive part is the headcount needed to run keyword research, site audits, competitor tracking and AI visibility monitoring inside it every week and turn the output into pipeline.
