Ahrefs Reviews: What Users Actually Say (2026)

Ahrefs Reviews: What Users Actually Say (2026)

Ahrefs is an SEO toolset for backlink, keyword and site-audit research. B2B platforms cluster between 4.5 and 4.7 out of 5, but Trustpilot sits at 2.1/5 with half its reviews at one star, and Ahrefs actively solicits those Trustpilot reviews.

Ahrefs Review Overview

  • G2: 4.5/5 on 713 reviews, checked September 2026, includes G2-invite reviews tagged “Incentivized” on the platform.
  • Capterra / GetApp / Software Advice: 4.7/5 on 585 reviews, one Gartner review pool republished three times, checked September 2026, a mix of organic and nominal-incentive reviews.
  • TrustRadius: 8.8/10 on 401 reviews and ratings (77 full written reviews), checked September 2026, some reviews carry an explicit “Incentivized” tag.
  • Trustpilot: 2.1/5 on 319 reviews, checked September 2026, Ahrefs actively solicits reviews on this profile.

What Users Say About Ahrefs

Users across the B2B platforms praise backlink-index depth and keyword-research breadth, and repeatedly flag pricing, per-seat costs and a credit system layered on top of the subscription.

G2: 4.5/5 (713 reviews, checked September 2026)

Several reviews sampled carry G2’s own “Incentivized” tag with the source listed as “G2 invite,” including the quote below. G2’s AI-generated summary praises “accurate backlink data and comprehensive keyword research” and “user-friendly interface,” and flags pricing as high “particularly for freelancers and small businesses.”

What users praise:

  • Backlink data reliability and Site Explorer/Site Audit depth
  • The free plan’s five site connections and weekly audit reports
  • Ease of setup

Where users push back:

  • Cost for small businesses and freelancers, with no lower-priced tier between free and the next level up
  • No built-in keyword-suggestion assist comparable to Semrush’s free tier
  • Feature-gating between plans, plus per-seat and credit costs

“Many of the features I’d like to use are costly (or require extra-cost upgrades)… I just wish they offered a lower-priced tier between the free plan and the next level up.”

  • Oliver H., Owner/Designer/Developer, Small-Business (G2 )

Capterra, GetApp and Software Advice: 4.7/5 (585 reviews, checked September 2026)

These are one review pool, not three. Capterra, GetApp and Software Advice are all Gartner Digital Markets properties, and this listing is identical across all three: same 4.7 rating, same 585-review count, and the same 447/119/13/1/5 star-distribution. Treat this as a single confirmed sample republished three times, not three independent corroborations.

Software Advice’s review cards carry both flow types directly: some marked “Review source: Organic. This review was submitted organically. No incentive was offered,” others marked “Incentivized. This reviewer was invited by us to submit an honest review and offered a nominal incentive as a thank you.” Capterra’s incentive labeling on the sampled reviews could not be confirmed either way.

What users praise:

  • Visual, analytical presentation of complex data
  • Keyword-gap and backlink-opportunity discovery
  • On-page SEO support and team collaboration on shared reports

Where users push back:

  • Cost not justifiable for small businesses just starting SEO
  • A credit system layered on top of the subscription fee, described by one reviewer as confusing enough to trigger unexpected charges
  • Seat-sharing costs for teams; one detailed complaint describes a $3,500 surprise charge for keyword tracking migrated from a legacy account

“For someone with an analytical mind like mine, being able to see complex data presented in a clear, visual way makes it so much easier to process, work with, and make quick decisions from.”

  • Julia H, Marketing Manager and Business Development, Marketing and Advertising, 2-10 employees (Capterra )

TrustRadius: 8.8/10 (401 reviews and ratings, checked September 2026)

TrustRadius uses a 10-point scale; this figure is reported as published, not converted to a 5-point scale. The 401 figure covers reviews and ratings combined, while the reviews tab shows 77 full written reviews, so the two counts measure different things. Reviews sampled include an explicit “Incentivized” label on TrustRadius’s own metadata, alongside at least one review carrying no incentive tag.

What users praise:

  • Described in TrustRadius’s own Insights summary as a “comprehensive platform” covering most SEO needs in one place
  • Backlink data called best in industry by many reviewers
  • Keyword data ranked close to top-tier

Where users push back:

  • Referring-domain accuracy inconsistent for France and Canada, with no vendor explanation offered
  • Referring-domain counts fluctuate, complicating internal reporting to stakeholders
  • Technical-SEO “how to fix” guidance described as lacking

“Sometimes we’ve noticed referring domain accuracy is not up to scratch for France and Canada. Which is odd. The Ahrefs team haven’t provided a reasonable explanation for why this is the case.”

  • Jon Baldwin, Senior SEO Content Manager in Marketing at Rover, 201-500 employees (TrustRadius )

Trustpilot: 2.1/5 (319 reviews, checked September 2026)

Ahrefs holds a claimed Trustpilot profile, claimed since October 2020, and the platform’s own disclosure states Ahrefs “asks customers to review,” meaning the vendor actively solicits reviews here. The star breakdown is 23% five-star, 11% four-star, 8% three-star, 8% two-star and 50% one-star. Thirty-four of the 319 reviews were posted in the last 12 months, and Ahrefs replied to 32% of negative reviews, typically within two weeks.

What users praise:

  • Ease of use and a service reviewers describe as working reliably day to day

Where users push back:

  • Credit-system limits stacked on top of the subscription price, with one reviewer describing a search-bar cap of 500 uses per month on a $150-160/mo plan
  • Recurring extra or surprise charges beyond the base subscription
  • “Couldn’t fetch data” reliability errors
  • Account restrictions for “suspicious activity” on plans reviewers describe as unlimited

“Ahrefs keeps getting more expensive each month. Now, they’ve also added a “credit” system, so if you pay around $150-160 per month, you can only use their search bar a maximum of 500 times.”

Where the Review Platforms Disagree

The B2B-oriented platforms cluster tightly between 4.5 and 4.7 out of 5: G2 at 4.5/5 across 713 reviews, the Gartner pool at 4.7/5 across 585, TrustRadius at 8.8 out of 10 across 401. Trustpilot sits at 2.1/5 across 319, a gap of roughly 2.4 to 2.6 points on a 5-point scale.

The obvious explanation for a gap this size on other tools in this category is that the vendor stopped soliciting reviews on the low-scoring platform. That explanation does not hold here: Trustpilot’s own profile discloses that Ahrefs actively asks customers to review, and the score is still 2.1. Solicitation raised Trustpilot’s review volume without lifting the score.

What separates the two samples is what they are measuring, not who was asked to leave a review. G2, the Gartner pool and TrustRadius sample working SEO practitioners evaluating backlink data, keyword research and workflow, where Ahrefs’ backlink index is the standout praise theme on every one of those platforms. Trustpilot skews toward billing, cancellation and credit-limit disputes, and the complaint substance there, specifically the credit system layered on top of the subscription, is the same complaint that shows up as a secondary theme on Capterra, GetApp and Software Advice. The grievance is structural: how Ahrefs meters usage, not diffuse dissatisfaction with the product.

No single score here should be read as “the real rating.” The samples measure different populations asking different questions, and they should be read side by side, not averaged.

Ahrefs Pricing

Read directly from ahrefs.com/pricing on 2026-09-02. All prices are monthly, USD; annual billing is advertised as saving “up to 17%” without an itemized annual figure on the page.

Plan Price/mo Included users Extra user cost Crawl credits/mo
Lite $129 1 +$40/mo (up to 2 more) 100,000
Standard $249 1 +$60/mo (up to 5 more) 500,000
Advanced $449 1 +$80/mo (up to 10 more) 1,500,000
Enterprise $1,499 (annual commitment required) 3+ +$100/mo From 5,000,000

A free “Ahrefs Free” tier and a $29/mo Starter tier sit below Lite as entry points. Every paid tier also runs a credit system on top of the subscription: crawl credits are capped per plan, and per-user credits are capped at 1,000/mo on Lite only (unlimited on Standard and above, though project, keyword and crawl ceilings still apply plan-wide). This is the same mechanism driving the billing complaints on Capterra, Software Advice and Trustpilot above, credit caps and overage charges stacked on top of a flat monthly fee.

G2 and GetApp both list “Free Trial” as available for Ahrefs. As of the date read, ahrefs.com’s own pricing page shows no time-boxed free trial CTA on the paid Lite, Standard or Advanced tiers, only “Get started” (paid signup), the permanently free Ahrefs Free tier, and the $29/mo Starter tier. This page does not assert that no trial exists, only that the vendor’s own current pricing page does not display one on paid plans, which conflicts with what those two third-party listings state.

Ahrefs as a Vendor: Stability Signals

Source Score Reviews Last checked
GlassdoorNot verified (page blocked) September 2026
ComparablyNot verified (page blocked) September 2026

Glassdoor and Comparably were both blocked at the time of this read, September 2026: Glassdoor returned a tool-access denial on both glassdoor.com and its regional mirror, and Comparably returned an access-challenge page. Neither score could be read at source, so no vendor-stability score is reported for either platform here.

A Glassdoor profile for Ahrefs (16 reviews) is known to exist from a search-result snippet, but its score was never read, so no figure is published. No layoff, ownership-change or leadership-churn signal was found on the platforms actually read for this page; that reflects incomplete access to the primary sources for that signal, not a finding of stability.

Do You Need the Tool or the Outcome?

Ahrefs’ Lite plan starts at $129 a month, before per-seat add-ons and credit overages. That licence is the cheap part of doing SEO yourself; the expensive part is the headcount needed to run backlink research, keyword tracking and site audits inside it every week and turn the output into pipeline.
